General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, born on November 8, 1938, in Kano, Nigeria, was a prominent Nigerian military officer and Head of State. He played a significant role in Nigeria's history during a time of political and social change.

Murtala Mohammed had a distinguished military career, rising through the ranks of the Nigerian Army. He participated in various military operations and demonstrated leadership qualities, which earned him respect and admiration from his colleagues.

On July 29, 1975, Mohammed led a bloodless military coup that ousted General Yakubu Gowon from power. As the new Head of State, Mohammed embarked on a mission to restore integrity, accountability, and discipline in Nigeria's governance. He introduced a series of reforms aimed at combating corruption, improving public service delivery, and restoring public confidence in the government.

During his short but impactful tenure, Mohammed prioritized national unity and implemented policies to address socioeconomic inequalities.
