Dr. BOSSMAN PETER

Peter Bossman, born on November 2, 1955, in Accra, Ghana, is a prominent figure in Slovenian politics and medicine. Raised in a well-off family with a political background—his father was a close associate of Ghana's leader Kwame Nkrumah—Bossman spent his formative years in various countries, including North Africa, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, due to political upheavals in Ghana.

In 1977, Bossman began his medical studies in Yugoslavia, eventually settling in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He became actively involved in politics, leading an African students' organization while pursuing his education. His original plan to return to Ghana changed when he fell in love with Karmen Laković, a fellow student from Croatia, whom he later married. Together, they established a successful medical practice in Piran, Slovenia, where they raised their two daughters.

Bossman's foray into politics began with his involvement in the Piran City Council. In 2010, he made history by becoming Slovenia's first black mayor, defeating the incumbent mayor by a narrow margin. His campaign focused on promoting electric cars, boosting tourism through a golf course initiative, and fostering better relations with neighboring Croatia. Despite facing criticism for his perceived lack of fluency in Slovene, Bossman's leadership resonated with voters.

Re-elected for a second term in 2014, Bossman's groundbreaking election garnered international attention, earning him comparisons to former U.S. President Barack Obama. However, he has maintained that his political aspirations are limited to his role as mayor, expressing his intent to return to medicine after his tenure.
