Mother Teresa, also known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta, was born Anjezë  Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, which is now the capital  of North Macedonia. She is one of the most beloved and revered figures  of the 20th century, renowned for her unwavering commitment to serving  the poor and marginalized.   1. Mother Teresa was born to Albanian parents, Nikollë and Drana Bojaxhiu. She was baptized as Gonxhe Agnes. Her father passed away when she was only eight years old, leaving the family in financial hardship.

  2. Religious Calling: At the age of 18, Gonxhe Agnes felt a strong calling from God, which she described as a "call within a call." She left home to join the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish Catholic missionary order, and took the name Sister Mary Teresa. She arrived in Ireland to begin her novitiate and later moved to India, where she began her work as a teacher in Calcutta (now Kolkata).

  3. Founding the Missionaries of Charity: In 1946, Sister Teresa received what she described as a "call within a call" to work among the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta. In 1950, she established the Missionaries of Charity, a congregation devoted to serving the destitute, the sick, and the dying.

  4. Service to the Poor: Mother Teresa and her order focused on providing care to those suffering from diseases, poverty, and neglect. They offered hospice care, orphanages, and schools for underprivileged children. Their work extended beyond Calcutta to other parts of India and around the world.

  5. International Recognition: Mother Teresa's selfless dedication and the impact of her work soon gained international attention. She received numerous awards and honors, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

  6. Canonization: Mother Teresa was declared a saint by the Roman Catholic Church on September 4, 2016, in a canonization ceremony conducted by Pope Francis. She is now known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta.

  7. Death: Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997, at the age of 87. Her death was mourned worldwide, and she left behind a legacy of compassion and selflessness.

  8. Legacy: Mother Teresa's legacy continues to inspire people to engage in charitable and humanitarian work. The Missionaries of Charity, the organization she founded, continues to provide aid to the poor and needy in many countries.
