Founding the Missionaries of Charity: In 1946, Sister Teresa received what she described as a "call within a call" to work among the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta. In 1950, she established the Missionaries of Charity, a congregation devoted to serving the destitute, the sick, and the dying.
Service to the Poor: Mother Teresa and her order focused on providing care to those suffering from diseases, poverty, and neglect. They offered hospice care, orphanages, and schools for underprivileged children. Their work extended beyond Calcutta to other parts of India and around the world.
