Ernest Ako (14 February 1923 – 16 January 2021) was a distinguished Ghanaian law enforcement officer and statesman who made significant contributions to the development and maintenance of law and order in Ghana. Born on February 14, 1923, Ako's early life was characterized by a dedication to service and a commitment to upholding justice.

Ako's career in law enforcement began with his enlistment in the Ghana Police Service, where he quickly rose through the ranks due to his exemplary leadership and dedication to duty. His tireless efforts and outstanding performance saw him appointed as the Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service, a position he held from 30 September 1974 to 17 July 1978. As the highest-ranking officer in the police force, Ako played a pivotal role in shaping law enforcement policies and strategies during a critical period in Ghana's history.

During his tenure as Inspector General of Police, Ako implemented various initiatives aimed at modernizing the police force, enhancing professionalism, and improving public safety. Under his guidance, the Ghana Police Service made significant strides in its efforts to maintain law and order, earning widespread respect and admiration from the public.
