PRISCILLA OPKU KWATENG
THE BRILLIANT STAR WHO CHANGED GHANAIAN MUSIC
Early Life and Family Background
Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, popularly known by her stage name Ebony Reigns, was born on 16 February 1997 in Accra, Ghana. She grew up in Dansoman, one of the largest residential communities in Accra, where she became affectionately known among family and close friends as Nana Heemaa, meaning “Queen Mother.” She was the daughter of Nana Poku Kwarteng and Beatrice Oppong Marthin. Although she was raised in the bustling urban environment of Accra, Ebony traced her roots to Ghana’s Brong Ahafo Region. Her upbringing combined modern city life with strong traditional Ghanaian cultural values. From an early age, she displayed confidence, creativity, and an independent spirit that would later become hallmarks of her public image. Growing up in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Ebony belonged to a generation influenced by global music trends, African popular culture, and the rapid expansion of digital media. She developed a strong interest in music, fashion, and performance long before entering the entertainment industry professionally.
Education
Ebony began her basic education at Seven Great Princess Academy in Dansoman, Accra. Teachers and classmates remember her as energetic, outspoken, and talented. She later continued her studies at Methodist Girls High School in Mamfe, located in the Akuapim North District of Ghana’s Eastern Region.
