BABGANA UMARA ZULUM

Babagana Umara Zulum CON, born on 25 August 1969, is a Nigerian professor and politician who has served as the governor of Borno State since 2019 under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Zulum was born in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State. He received his elementary education at Mafa Primary School and completed his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Monguno.

After completing his secondary education, Zulum attended the University of Maiduguri, where he obtained a degree in Agriculture Engineering. He later pursued a master's degree in Agriculture Engineering at the University of Ibadan and completed his PhD in Soil and Water Engineering at the University of Maiduguri.

Zulum began his career in 1989 in the Borno State Civil Service and later moved to the Borno State Unified Local Government Service. He joined the University of Maiduguri as an assistant lecturer in 2000 and eventually became a professor. He also served as the Rector of Polytechnic and Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement in Borno State.

In October 2018, Zulum won the gubernatorial primaries of the All Progressives Congress for Borno State. He was elected as the governor of Borno State in the 2019 gubernatorial election.

Zulum has survived multiple assassination attempts by Boko Haram. His convoy was attacked on several occasions, resulting in casualties among security personnel and civilians. Despite the attacks, Zulum has continued his efforts to govern and develop Borno State.
