Rivo Rakotovao, born on May 12, 1960, is a Malagasy politician who served as acting President of Madagascar from 2018 to 2019. He assumed this role following the resignation of President Hery Rajaonarimampianina, who stepped down to run for re-election. At the time, Rakotovao was President of the Senate, a position he held from 2017 to 2021. His leadership during the transition was crucial until President-elect Andry Rajoelina took office.

Rakotovao also leads the New Strength for Madagascar party, linked to former President Rajaonarimampianina. In June 2022, he was summoned by the Independent Office for the Fight Against Corruption over allegations of corruption and embezzlement, highlighting challenges in his career.
