HENRIQUE PEREIRA ROSA

Henrique Pereira Rosa, born in 1946 in Bafatá, was a key Bissau-Guinean politician who served as interim President of Guinea-Bissau from 2003 to 2005. He took office on September 28, 2003, after a military coup removed President Kumba Ialá. His leadership followed discussions between political leaders, civil society, and the military, aiming to restore democratic governance.

Rosa’s primary role was to oversee a smooth transition to constitutional rule, successfully organizing free and fair legislative elections in 2004, followed by a democratic presidential election in 2005. He did not run for the presidency, instead facilitating a peaceful transition when João Bernardo "Nino" Vieira won the election. Rosa stepped down on October 1, 2005, leaving behind a more stable political environment and an improved human rights record.

After his interim presidency, he ran as an independent candidate in the 2009 presidential election, finishing in third place. Rosa passed away on May 15, 2013, in Porto, Portugal, after a battle with lung cancer, at the age of 67. Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrique_Rosa
