Ahmed Laraki

Ahmed Moulay Laraki was a Moroccan politician who served as the sixth Prime Minister of Morocco from October 1969 to August 1971 under King Hassan II. A prominent figure in the national movement, he also held the position of Foreign Minister from 1967 to 1971.

MOULAY AHMED LARAKI

Moulay Ahmed Laraki, born in Casablanca in 1931, was a prominent Moroccan diplomat and politician. After earning his medical doctorate in Paris in 1957, he returned to Casablanca to practice but soon transitioned to government service. He began his political career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Ahmed Balafrej and, by 1967, was appointed Foreign Minister in Mohamed Benhima’s cabinet.

In 1969, Laraki became Prime Minister, serving until his resignation in 1971 following the Skhirat coup attempt. He later joined Ahmed Osman’s government as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in 1974, where he helped negotiate the Madrid Accords, formalizing Spain’s exit from Western Sahara. Laraki passed away on November 2, 2020, leaving a legacy of significant diplomatic contributions to Morocco.
