Mauritius, an island nation located in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometers off the southeast coast of Africa, boasts a rich history, diverse culture, and dynamic economy. The island's history dates back to the early 16th century when it was first visited by the Portuguese. It was subsequently occupied by the Dutch in 1598, who named it after Prince Maurice of Nassau.
