About

Tamsir Jallow, born in 1941, is a prominent figure in Gambian politics and diplomacy, whose career has spanned various roles and responsibilities both domestically and internationally.

After completing his education at the University of Cape Coast in 1970, Jallow embarked on a career in education, initially as a science teacher. Over the years, he ascended to managerial positions within the education sector, notably contributing to curriculum development from 1980 to 1989. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated a commitment to enhancing educational standards and fostering academic growth.

Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, Jallow pursued postgraduate studies at prestigious institutions such as the University of Birmingham, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Nairobi, further augmenting his expertise and qualifications.

Jallow's political journey commenced with his involvement in the July 22nd Movement, where he served as chairman from 1995 to 1997, advocating for political change and societal progress. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as one of the founding members of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), contributing to the shaping of Gambia's political landscape.

Following the 1997 general election, Jallow transitioned into parliamentary politics, assuming the role of majority leader and representing the APRC faction in parliament. His leadership and advocacy in parliament underscored his commitment to advancing the interests of his constituents and promoting national development.

In the realm of diplomacy, Jallow's contributions have been equally significant. He served as the Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2002 to 2005, fostering bilateral relations and representing Gambian interests on the international stage. Subsequently, he assumed the role of High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in June 2006, further strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.

His diplomatic tenure extended to the United Nations, where he served as Gambia's permanent representative, advocating for global cooperation and addressing key international issues. Despite his dismissal from this position in October 2007, Jallow continued to serve his country as Gambia's ambassador to the United States from December 2007, furthering diplomatic engagements between Gambia and the United States.

However, his diplomatic service faced challenges, as evidenced by his recall from New York in June 2008, reflecting the complexities of diplomatic relations and international dynamics.
