Dr. ADEEBUL HASAN RIZVI

Dr. Adeebul Hasan Rizvi is a distinguished Pakistani surgeon and philanthropist renowned for his pioneering contributions to urology and kidney transplantation. Born on September 11, 1938, in Jaunpur, India, he migrated to Pakistan in 1950. Dr. Rizvi earned his MBBS degree from Dow Medical College, Karachi, in 1961. He further specialized in urology and renal transplantation during his training in the UK, working at various prestigious institutions, including the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

In 1973, Dr. Rizvi returned to Pakistan and joined Karachi’s Civil Hospital, where he envisioned and eventually founded the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). Starting as an eight-bed urology ward, SIUT has grown into one of Pakistan’s largest and most comprehensive renal care centers, providing free medical treatment to millions of patients. His vision was to ensure that no one should die only because they cannot afford medical care. Under his leadership, SIUT expanded its services to include dialysis, kidney transplantation, oncology, and other specialized treatments.

Dr. Rizvi’s commitment to healthcare transcends medical practice; he is a passionate advocate for ethical medical practices and patients' rights. His work has earned him numerous national and international accolades, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, which are among Pakistan’s highest civilian honors.
